I will preface this by saying I haven't played a Pokemon game since Ultra Sun/Moon. However I have been a fan since the original game boy releases from Pokemon Red, and Blue.

From my experience, Pokemon has been much the same thing through the generations. Layer upon layer, we get a new coat of paint and sometimes, some of the parts you like on those layers of paint are scratched off into obscurity. The important thing to remember though is that the base foundations of the wall where all this painting is happening is the exact same foundations from the very beginning. Even if it starts to fall apart, some people might not notice until it's too late and the whole thing comes crumbling down.

Here with Legends: Arceus we have a brand new spanking foundation and it's beautiful!

You have to wonder to yourself; can these two different structures co-exist?

The short answer is yes, I'm sure they can, but will one's existence threaten the other?

I for one hope that the two can learn from each other while sharing resources between both. I'd love to see some of the quality of life features seen in Legends: Arceus adapted to the main series.

To list a few features I'd like to see more of:

  • The ability to freely swap out your Pokémon's moveset at will.

  • Transitionless battle encounters.

  • Seamless environment to Pokémon interactions.

  • Alternative method to access trade evolutions.

  • Ability to call out your Pokémon freely in most locations. (I only wish they would follow you as well).

  • Sidequests.

  • Choosing when you want to evolve when you reach that threshold.

Considering features in the main series that I'd like to see in the Legend series there is only one:

  • Multiplayer battles.

  • Breeding.

That's it. It's not even a proper list some people may include abilities and held items. While the absence of both is rather simple, you have to admit that it's nice not to have to worry about sturdy Geodudes while exploring the wild.

I'm hoping the developers manage to use what they have learned in each series going forward. If they do ping back and forth, they will have to be mindful of how they handle feedback. If they aren't careful we could end up with something that's more than just similar and along the structure of the same old thing again.
